Matthew 19:30
But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.
One dark and stormy night, a gang of thieves broke into a jewelry store, but they were on a mission with a difference. They didn't steal a thing. But they carefully went round the whole shop and switched all the price tags. Then they left.
The next day, the staff came in, and because the thieves had been so careful, nobody noticed they'd even been there. Customers came and people were spending huge amounts of money to buy cheap junk, while others were paying a couple of dollars for jewelry worth thousands of dollars.
It is amazing to see what the world values. They stack up trinkets that have no eternal value, and disdain things that will pay off forever. A lot of people are going to stand at the gates of Heaven and be amazed at how little what they thought was so important means nothing to God. A $680 dollar Mont Blanc gold pen is beautiful, but if it won’t sign your paycheck, you will grab a 12 cent Bic Stik and use it!
So many of us are carrying beautiful things that won’t help us. Micah 6:8 lays out what God values: Micah 6:8 No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
God isn’t impressed with your riches. He owns the cattle on a thousand hills, and his home’s streets are paved with gold.
God is impressed when we accept Christ and follow him with all our hearts and live a life of obedience. The world can’t see the value in that. They think it is worthless, but in God’s kingdom the price tags have all been switched. Make sure you are living for eternity, not just for today.
