Why Should I Be Afraid?
Psalms 27:1 The LORD is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The LORD is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
We travel with our brown and white Boston Terrier, Boss. He’s a great little dog, and he is a perfect travel dog. Boss does have one issue, though. He’s a scaredy-cat!
He doesn’t like it when the RV is in motion. Loud noises kind of freak him out, too. When he gets scared, he shakes like a phone on vibrate, then he runs to Lanette or me for safety. Mind you, we can’t make the rain or noises stop, but being near us (mostly Lanette) makes him feel better.
King David knew all about fear. He faced lions as a youth, he took on a big smelly giant, and was hunted by King Saul. He could have given in to fear, but he chose to trust God instead. Unlike Lanette or me when it rains, God could actually intervene for David. I’ve tried telling the rain to stop so Boss would feel better. It doesn’t work.
It doesn’t work because I am not God. God is God, and he is good, and he is powerful. Why should we be afraid, why should we tremble? He is our fortress, our light, and our salvation!
Now get out from underneath the bed and let’s face today with God’s strength and protection!
