Luke 12:25 Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?
Hans Christian Andersen, author of such well-known fairy tales as “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” had a phobia of being buried alive. As a result, he always carried a note in his pocket telling anyone who might find him unconscious not to assume he was dead. He often left another note on his bedside table stating, “I only seem dead.” Such was his anxiety until he finally succumbed to cancer in 1875.
Isn’t it odd how many things we can find to worry about? We worry about our finances, our physical bodies, our jobs. We can lay awake at night worrying about a promotion, getting sick, or the consequences of messing something up.
We’ve got a lot of stuff on our minds!
But what good does worrying do? As you fret and worry there is usually nothing you can do in that moment to change anything. What is going to happen is going to happen.
David Guzik wrote, “Worry accomplishes nothing; we can add nothing to our lives by worrying. There may be greater sins than worry, but there are none more self-defeating and useless.”
So how do we handle these things? We give them to God. You might not be able to change anything, but God certainly can! Why not give all of your concerns to the one who actually has the power to see you through? Here’s the plan: Luke 12:31 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need. Worry not included!
