You Have A Beautiful Liver
1 Corinthians 12:22 In fact, some parts of the body that seem weakest and least important are actually the most necessary.
I am not a handsome man. I’m not saying that out of false humility, I just know what I see in the mirror every day. I don’t walk into a room and hear a murmur in the crowd. I take that back, I have, but it’s not the nice kind of murmur! I am not a chiseled Adonis when I take off my shirt. If you ever see me in a fashion magazine I will have a black bar covering my face, and the caption will read “DON’T!”
Now, with all of that going against me, God has been able to use me. I have served as a Senior Pastor, an Assistant Pastor, a Youth Pastor and a Chaplain. I have spoken to youth groups and camps, I have been invited to speak to men’s groups and other churches. Why? Definitely not because I was handsome, but because of God’s gifts.
Today’s verse is important to the Church because it shows that the gifts God has given us are not all the same, yet are necessary. In fact, some of the “least attractive” gifts are the most important. If it wasn’t for the setup crew that gets to church early on Sundays my church, Remnant, would be pretty bleak. We would all be sitting on the floor, straining to hear the message. No chairs, no sound system, and worst of all, no coffee!
Don’t worry if God has gifted you in these behind the scenes, or hidden, gifts. Get to work! Whatever God has gifted you to do, do it with all your might, and with an eye toward excellence. Nobody has ever told you “You have a beautiful liver,” but it is hard to live without one!
