Hebrews 1:14 Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.
I have been a baseball fan my whole life. Well, most of my life. I doubt I was cheering for the Dodgers while eating Gerber strained carrots, but I digress.
One of my favorite characters in baseball has to be Yogi Berra. Not only was he an incredible player, he was a fount of knowledge about life. He said some amazing things:
“Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.”
“You better cut the pizza into four pieces because I’m not hungry enough to eat six.”
And my favorite: “Baseball is 90 percent mental. The other half is physical.”
You know what I never heard Yogi say? “Heaven gained another angel today.”
Christians have been throwing that saying around forever. They use it to comfort those who have lost loved ones, especially children. The problem is that it isn’t true.
We don’t become angels after we die. Just like us, angels were created by God. Humans are different because we were created in God’s image. Angels protect us, and in today’s verse, care for us.
So you’re no angel, and you’re not going to be one after you die, you were created for a different purpose. I’m glad we could clear that up!
